Solo Consultant Guide

Manage your entire workflow from template creation to execution

You wear all the hats. This guide shows you how to capture your expertise, manage your workload, and deliver consistent quality—all by yourself.

1
Capture Your Expertise as Templates

Document your repeatable processes: client onboarding, service delivery, project types. Create templates with clear activities and quality criteria.

Example:

Create "Website Audit for Small Business" template with activities: (1) Technical review, (2) SEO analysis, (3) Report creation, (4) Recommendations call.

Success Metric: You have templates for your 3 most common service offerings

2
Turn Templates into Real Projects

When you land a client, create a task from your template. Customize for the specific client. Set your own due dates.

Example:

New client "Acme Corp" needs website audit. Create task from template, customize activities for their industry, set deadline for next Friday.

Success Metric: Each client project has a dedicated task with clear completion criteria

3
Curate Your Daily Focus List

Select which activities you want to work on today. Your Focus List shows only what matters now—not your entire backlog.

Example:

Monday morning: Add "Acme Corp technical review" and "Beta Corp recommendations call" to Focus List. Everything else stays in backlog.

Success Metric: Your Focus List contains 3-7 activities you will actually work on today

4
Execute with Quality Gates

Work through Focus List activities. Check off criteria as you complete them. Your template criteria ensure consistent quality.

Example:

Working on Acme technical review: Check off "Audit page speed ✓", "Review mobile responsiveness ✓", "Test broken links ✓". All criteria met = activity complete.

Success Metric: Complete activities without skipping quality criteria
5
Refine Your Process

After completing a project, review what worked. Update your template to capture new insights. Your process gets better with each client.

Example:

After Acme project: Realized you always need to check SSL certificates. Add "Verify SSL configuration" criterion to template for next time.

Success Metric: Templates improve over time based on real project experience
